“Auto da Barca Do Efémero”: the art of itineration

Ana Aragão artwork, Auto da Barca do Efémero, will begin to travel different sites in Portugal, after a long international journey to Tokyo, Osaka and Porto. The japanese inspired artwork, from 20th march 2026 onwards, will stay at Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon — more precisely in the large refectory of the iconic portuguese monument.

In 2025, as part of the "Confluences and Creation" program of the Soares dos Reis National Museum, Porto, the piece established a dialogue with the museum's Namban art collections, exploring themes of cultural exchange and the circulation of techniques and objects between the West and the East. Its installation in the Jerónimos Monastery represents a new stage in this narrative, linking the work to a space of profound historical and symbolic significance.
